Meet your chiropractor

It started with my father

My father was in a serious auto accident while I was in college and on the "pre-med" program. While I was home on holiday break, he had me go with him to his chiropractic appointments. I was so impressed the improvement me made while I was on break that I changed to a "pre-chiropractic" program and am so glad I did.

What makes me different

I am the low force guy here. I have tools that I can turn down the force to use on the newborn baby who is irritable and not wanting to eat and that same tool can be turned up and used on the 200-pound construction worker who doesn’t like to get his back cracked because it irritates his arthritis.

What an adjustment feels like

A Chiropractic adjustment is when you put a force into a joint that is locked up or restricted. That can be done manually using my hands or I can use a Chiropractic adjusting tool. With a manual adjustment many times you will hear a pop, which is just gas being release from the joint. When using an adjusting tool there is no pop from the joint. Both techniques work great. We will talk and decide which technique will work best for your case.

Outside the office

I grew up in Greendale and have lived in Greenfield for the last 30 years. My mother is still living on her own, so most of my free time is checking in on her and walking my six-year-old miniature schnauzer. My neighbors see me walking in the rain and snowstorms and tell me I have a very lucky little guy.

Focus areas

Where I focus

Every doctor at Chiropractic Company is trained to care for the full range of spinal and musculoskeletal conditions. What differs between us is the additional training we’ve done and the patients we’ve spent the most time with.

Seniors (65+)

Mostly chronic issues-keep them functioning as best possible

Mostly chronic issues-keep them functioning as best possible.

Desk & office workers

The body likes motion, so sitting at a desk for hours at a time causes the neck, upper back and lower back to tighten up.

Trades & manual labor

The repetitive bending and heavy lifting that trades and manual laborers do make them more prone to these conditions.

Technique

How I work

Franklin has a lot of active workers and retirees. I typically see a combination of lower back pain, upper back pain and neck patients every day.

Then

Cox flexion-distraction

A segmented table gently stretches the spine to open the space around a compressed disc or nerve root. Often used for sciatica and disc complaints.

Adjusting

Diversified

The most widely used chiropractic technique — a specific, hands-on thrust to restore motion in a restricted joint. This is what most people picture when they think of getting adjusted.

Low force

Thompson drop-table

A section of the table drops a short distance as the adjustment is delivered, so less manual force is needed to move the joint.

Low force

Activator / instrument

A small handheld instrument delivers a controlled, low-force impulse to a specific spot. No twisting, no popping sound.

Beyond the spine

Extremity adjusting

Adjusting joints outside the spine — shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles and feet. Often what a spine-only approach misses.

Assessment

Motion palpation

Feeling how each joint moves through its range rather than assessing it at rest. This is how a restricted segment gets found — often not where the pain is.

Assessment

X-ray analysis

On-site imaging when it will change the plan. Used to rule things out as much as to confirm them.

Assessment

Gait analysis

Watching how you walk. Foot, knee, hip and back complaints frequently trace back to something happening at heel strike.

Modality

Electrical stimulation

Surface electrodes deliver a light current that interrupts the pain signal and reduces muscle guarding.

Modality

Ultrasound

Sound waves applied through a handpiece to warm deep tissue and improve circulation to an injured area.

Also uses Home exercise programming.

Two things worth knowing

You decide what I do

Chiropractic is one of the safest alternative health care treatments out there, but if you wish to not have a manual neck adjustment, we can use a chiropractic adjusting instrument.

When I’ll send you somewhere else

If I notice something unusual on an x-ray or the radiologist sees something I will be sending them out for more advanced imaging. If you are not responding to care as you have in the past, I will either recommend seeing someone who uses a different technique than I do or send you out for a second opinion.

For most people, no. You may hear or feel a pop, which is gas releasing from the joint rather than bones cracking. Some people feel mild soreness afterward, similar to after a workout, usually for a day or less.

Plan for about an hour. That covers the consultation, the exam, and X-rays if they’re needed. At your second visit, Dr. Rottiger goes over the results and your care plan. Follow-up visits are shorter.
