Medicare and Chiropractic Care
Using Medicare for chiropractic care? Here’s how billing works.
Trusted, personal care in neighborhood clinics throughout Greater Milwaukee.
What Medicare covers at a chiropractor
Medicare Part B covers only certain chiropractic services.1
- Covered: Part B covers adjustments of the spine by a chiropractor to correct a subluxation.1 A subluxation is when spinal joints don’t move properly, but the joints still touch.1
- Not covered: Other services or tests a chiropractor orders, including X-rays, massage therapy, and acupuncture.1
- Corrective care only: Medicare doesn’t consider maintenance care medically necessary. That’s care that supports you once more improvement isn’t expected.3

What you pay with Original Medicare
Medicare sets these amounts each year. These are the 2026 figures from Medicare.gov.2

|---|---|
| Part B deductible | $283 in 2026, before Original Medicare starts to pay.2 |
| Covered adjustments | After the deductible, you pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount.1 |
| X-rays, massage, other services | Medicare doesn’t cover these when a chiropractor orders them.1 |
| Other insurance | Your costs can depend on other insurance you have.1 |
