It was not what I expected to be fixed

I chose chiropractic because I could have use chiropractic care in my youth. I didn’t discover chiropractic until college. I got adjusted once and my acid reflux went away. I started doing job shadows with chiropractors and saw how much a chiropractor can do -- not just pain. I wish I had had a medical profession in my youth who sat me down and explained to me how pain was related to the biomechanics of the body.

What makes me different

I take more time on the first visit to make sure I understand what is going on with the patient. I also take more time on the second visit to make sure the patient understands their diagnosis, how insurance works, and talk our way through the first adjustment.

What an adjustment feels like

We start from the bottom and work our way up. We start by getting pelvis in good alignment by using the drop piece. Then, we adjust through the midback to improve posture. We finish with the neck and extremities. After adjustments, we will always stretch so adjustments last longer.

Outside the office

I grew up in Menomonee Falls and went to Menomonee Falls High School. I never thought I would end up back in my hometown, but I’m so grateful to be here. My husband runs a gym in the Falls called Sport AdvantEdge for athletes of all ages. I work closely with the Wisconsin Athletic Club and sponsor Sussex wrestling.

Focus areas

Where I focus

Every doctor at Chiropractic Company is trained to care for the full range of spinal and musculoskeletal conditions. What differs between us is the additional training we’ve done and the patients we’ve spent the most time with.

Pregnancy

Sciatica and lower back pain are common with pregnancy

Sciatica and lower back pain are common with pregnancy.

Chronic pain

Chiropractic works well for my patients with chronic pain such as sciatica & nerve pain, headaches & migraines, and neck pain & stiffness.

Recreational athletes

I commonly treat active adults suffering from knee pain, shoulder pain, and plantar fasciitis.

Technique

How I work

Menomonee Falls has a wide variety of ages, activity levels, and conditions. I most commonly see active adults looking to improve their health or mobility.

Usually first

Diversified

This technique can be used for spinal or extremity adjustments. It works well for most patients and provides faster relief.

Then

Activator / instrument

I use this technique with patients who are nervous about hearing pops or cracks. It is also good for patients with osteoporosis or kids.

Also

Thompson table drop

The foundation of the spine is the pelvis. If the pelvis is functioning properly, the rest of the spine has a better chance to respond positively to adjustments.

Low force

Thompson drop-table

A section of the table drops a short distance as the adjustment is delivered, so less manual force is needed to move the joint.

Low force

SOT / blocking

Padded wedges placed under the pelvis let body weight do the correcting over several minutes. Very little force applied directly.

Beyond the spine

Extremity adjusting

Adjusting joints outside the spine — shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles and feet. Often what a spine-only approach misses.

Children

Pediatric / low-force

Adjusting scaled to a child, using roughly the pressure you would use to check a ripe tomato. Nothing like an adult adjustment in force or technique.

Assessment

Motion palpation

Feeling how each joint moves through its range rather than assessing it at rest. This is how a restricted segment gets found — often not where the pain is.

Assessment

X-ray analysis

On-site imaging when it will change the plan. Used to rule things out as much as to confirm them.

Assessment

Digital foot scan

A pressure scan of both feet, showing how weight distributes and where the arch is collapsing.

Also uses Active Release Technique, Trigger point therapy, Kinesiology taping, Electrical stimulation and Custom orthotics.

Two things worth knowing

You decide what I do

I always ask for more information. Is it fear? Is it the sound of the pops/cracks? Did they have a bad experience somewhere else? We always do a "practice round" before adjustments to make sure the patient is comfortable with the type of adjustment.

When I’ll send you somewhere else

I have a physical therapist in my office that works closely with me. Patients who do both PT and chiropractic tend to get better faster. I am very comfortable referring patients back to their primary for more imaging or follow-up tests if there are concerns.

For most people, no. You may hear or feel a pop, which is gas releasing from the joint rather than bones cracking. Some people feel mild soreness afterward, similar to after a workout, usually for a day or less.

Plan for about an hour. That covers the consultation, the exam, and X-rays if they’re needed. At your second visit, Dr. Defnet goes over the results and your care plan. Follow-up visits are shorter.

Yes. We’re in-network with most insurance companies, including Medicare, and we bill your plan for you. What you pay depends on your plan’s copay, deductible, and coinsurance. Verify your insurance before your visit, or call (262) 253-6779.

No referral is needed. Some insurance plans may require one for full benefits. Our team can check when you verify your insurance.
